SUPER SPINACH: FOOD OF THE FUTURE



Spinach became widely available in the 1930's after a little help from a certain cartoon sailor who could always find his super strength in his favourite leafy greens.

Popeye was right - spinach is highly nutritious, containing plenty of iron, phytonutrients and folate – as well as vitamins A, C and K. Spinach is also extremely versatile. It can be used in a variety of healthy recipes where it can be eaten fresh, sautéed, creamed, blanched or even added to stir-fries, soups and stews.

EGGS FLORENTINE

Spinach for breakfast? Yes, please! This tasty treat is made up of a perfectly toasted English muffin, gently wilted baby spinach leaves, and a poached egg topped with creamy hollandaise sauce. Spinach adds a welcome bite of bittersweet freshness in this classic breakfast recipe.

SPINACH, BACON AND FETA SALAD

Use fresh, well-washed spinach to make the base of this delicious salad before finishing it off with crispy bacon and crumbled feta. This recipe is a great example of how easy it can be to make spinach the centre of your meal - simply add a drizzle of Knorr’s Creamy Italian Salad Dressing and some warm, crusty bread to create a light and tasty midweek family dinner.

CLASSIC CREAMED SPINACH

Creamed spinach is one of the most mouth-watering ways to enjoy this veggie. Heat margarine, cream and a Knorr Chicken Stock Pot in a saucepan before adding roughly chopped, blanched spinach to the mixture. Allow the sauce to reduce to your preferred consistency and serve it as a side dish with roast chicken, beef or lamb for a very special flavour experience.
