Vegetables Your Kids Will Love

Vegetables are great for your kids! Not only are they good for young growing bodies, but they’re also filled with vitamins and minerals. They can transform a chicken into a roast, and convert a piece of crumbed fish into a delicious family dinner. They bring your family’s plates to life, and when prepared the right way they add colour and fresh flavours to almost any dish.

Potatoes

Versatile, nutritious potatoes can be prepared in lots of different tasty ways. Whether the kids like thick-cut oven chips, or golden wedges, or spuds baked in their jackets, or heaps of fluffy mash, potatoes are a great source of energy and their skins are filled with fibre.

Mielies

Full of energy and flavour, mielies are a fun-to-eat treat that can be prepared in a score of scrumptious ways. You and the kids might like them hot off the braai and smothered in sauce, or boiled on the stove and rolled in butter and paprika, or cut fresh from the cob for use in salads and soups – there are so many ways the family can enjoy this inexpensive veggie all year around.

Carrots

Packed with fibre and Vitamin A, carrots are a healthy vegetable that can be boiled, baked, grated, fried, tossed in cinnamon, drizzled in honey, or simply eaten raw with a yummy dip. Your kids will love these orange nibbles in piping hot stews, crunchy and light salads, and in homely cottage pies.

Butternut

With its natural sweetness and soft texture, butternut can be prepared and enjoyed in a host of different ways. It’s also a great source of vitamin A and fibre, which can help boost your child’s immune system.
